- Dave Matthews Band - Under the Table and Dreaming
- U2 - Joshua Tree
- Pearl Jam - Ten
- Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians - Shooting Rubber Bands at the Stars (I know this is an old one, but I LOVED this album back in the day)
- 10000 Maniacs - In My Tribe (same here...I listened to this over and over when I was backpacking after I went abroad my junior year in college)
- Foo Fighters - any album - I just love them
- R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
- A variety of Soundtracks: Singles, Almost Famous, Pretty in Pink (Joe will roll his eyes when he reads this one but at the time it was great), Garden State
I'll update when I think of more later.

Off the top of my head:
Van Morrison- Moondance or Astral Weeks
Red Hot Chili Peppers- Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Cure- Disintegration
Who- Who's Next
Elton John- Tumbleweed Connection
Fleetwood Mac- Rumors (kind of a dated pick...)
Re. soundtracks- About A Boy, by Badly Drawn Boy.
You have to of course disallow greatest hits albums for technical reasons.
RHCP excellent choice...
cowboy junkies-trinity sessions. its on repeat on the ipod.
Sweet call on the Cowboy Junkies, although I have to take really slight exception: I used to fall to sleep to this CD all the time, and there were two tracks (4 and 11) that had piercing, annoying harmonica/accordion that consistently woke me. [Yes, I'm a moron for not programming the CD player around them.]
Take those off the disc or iTune, and Trinity is sheer bliss. [Those songs are good, incidentally, but can act like nails across a chalkboard compared to the rest of the CD as a whole.]
P.S. Cowboy Junkies' The Caution Horses is amazing as well.
U2 Achtung Baby and How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
Alanis Morrisette Jagged Little Pill
Rumours, of course
Prince: Sign o the Times
Suzanne Vega: Suzanne Vega
Sheryl Crow: Globe Sessions
Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon, in fact you kind of have to listen to the entire CD all at once.
REM: Up
Personal Note: New Bohemians 2nd CD Ghost of a Dog better than Shooting Rubberbands, but has some clunkers so it doesn't belong on this list. If you don't own it, I recommend it.
I thought of a few more soundtracks - we just found a box of CDs we thought had been stolen (buried in a box of books!) and I happened upon Reality Bites and Dazed and Confused...can't believe I forgot these!
Just ready your blog for the first time - love it, by the way - and put on Under the Table and Dreaming and danced around my living room in a mid-90's nostalgic haze. Good times and good disc!
This is a tough one. If it has to be that EVERY song is great. I can name a ton where 10 out of 12 or something like that are great. But if it has to be EVERY song, here is my list- there are probably some I'm forgetting, but these will do for now:
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street (and because it has 18 songs, it gets my vote for best album ever made..but that's another debate all together)
Rolling Stones-Let it Bleed
Radiohead - OK Computer
The Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
Wilco-Sky Blue Sky
Wilco-Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Wilco-Being There
Oasis-(What's the Story) Morning Glory
Bob Dylan-Blood on the Tracks
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
Bruce Springsteen-Born to Run
Bruce Springsteen-Darkness of the Edge of Town
Bruce Springsteen-Nebraska
The Band-The Band
U2 - Joshua Tree
U2-Achtung Baby
The Beatles-Abbey Road
The Beatles-Revolver
The Clash-London Calling
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers-Damn the Torpedos
Ryan Adams-Heartbreaker
Ryan Adams-Gold
Son Volt-Trace
Dan, That is a well thought out list...somehow I feel you've answered this question before!
I think I mentioned that we found our long lost CDs. Joe downloaded Hoist by Phish last night and so I'll add that and Billy Breathes to my list.
I actually haven't answered that exact question before. Just took out the ipod and look at the artists lists. There is only 15 artists on there. then it was a matter of thinking about what albums I wouldn't hit the skip button on.
